Susumaniello is one of the most important native vines of the Brindisi area.

VersoSud is a masterfully crafted pure Susumaniello: it ages for the first ten months in steel and the following six months in French oak barrels.
The name VersoSud is inspired by the position of the vineyards from which Susumaniello is produced, located in the southernmost part of the Itria Valley and our estate, near the Torre Guaceto nature reserve.

It has an intense and brilliant ruby red colour, with purple reflections.
On the nose it is superb: notes of ripe plum, berries, blackberry, cherry, sweet toasted notes, vanilla and a light dusting of spices blend together in a full and rich perfume.
The taste is harmonious, fresh and fruity. It is a structured wine, with great intensity and persistence of taste.
Contact with the wood gives the wine softness, while respecting its delicate and pleasant tannicity.
Versosud wine should be paired with important first courses such as lasagna or pasta with ragù, grilled meat or mature cheeses.

Located 350m above sea level; viticulture in this arid, rocky and calcareous terrain of Valle d’Itria is a challenging pursuit.

The terrain conspires with constant sunlight, uniform radiation and natural ventilation to create a formidable terroir that confirms I Pastini as the beating heart of Apulia’s white wine production.

In an area of 15 hectares, Minutolo, Verdeca, Bianco d’Alessano, Primitivo and Susumaniello are the local grape varieties cultivated from these extraordinary vines to make wonderful wines

Eschewing chemicals and emphasizing sustainable farming; the wheels of this organically focused, family estate turn through sheer will, passion and hard work.

The terroir provides the perfect growth of healthy grapes, a manual harvest undertaken by expert local labor selects the best of these and the finely evolved production does the rest!

The result…?

Ian D’Agata authoritative book “Native Wine Grapes of Italy” puts it rather well

“Carperelli has set up his own estate where he makes in my view, Puglias best white wines
