Primitivo, grown with the characteristic shape of a small tree, is the best-known and most widespread native red grape variety in Puglia.

The origins of Primitivo are uncertain, it is believed that the vine is of Dalmatian or Croatian origin and that it was imported into Puglia more than 2000 years ago, initially cultivated in the areas of Gioia del Colle and then produced throughout Puglia.

The name Primitivo derives from the Latin “Primativus” due to the early ripening of the grapes.
Arpago is a Primitivo Puglia IGP grown in the Taranto area, it has a ruby red color with purple reflections that tend to become garnet with aging.
It has an intense and enveloping taste with hints of red berries, black cherry, blackberry, plum, cherry in alcohol. Warm, soft, harmonious and with good persistence.

A wine that pairs excellently with seasoned cured meats, first courses with robust meat-based sauces, red meats, game and seasoned cheeses.

Located 350m above sea level; viticulture in this arid, rocky and calcareous terrain of Valle d’Itria is a challenging pursuit.
